Prominent Canadian law firm Torys has announced a landmark partnership with Harvey, a leading AI platform tailored for the legal industry. The firm is set to deploy the technology across all its practice groups, positioning it among the first in Canada to adopt such a tool at this significant scale. This strategic initiative, which uniquely includes weekly onsite support from Harvey personnel, aims to substantially enhance client service delivery through advanced AI capabilities.

A Strategic Leap in Legal Technology

Matt Cockburn, Torys' Managing Partner, framed this collaboration as the latest step in the firm's carefully managed and evolving AI strategy. He emphasized a deliberate and disciplined approach to scaling these new capabilities, which reinforces a deep-seated commitment to responsible AI adoption. The firm-wide rollout of Harvey's platform therefore marks a major advancement in Torys' long-standing use of innovative technology to better serve its clients.

Fostering Adoption and Innovation

A core and distinguishing component of the collaboration is Harvey's provision of weekly onsite personnel, a first for any Canadian law firm. Sukesh Kamra, Torys’ Chief Knowledge and Innovation Officer, noted this directly addresses the common challenge of achieving sustained user adoption with new technology. This embedded, hands-on support is designed to accelerate the development of matter-specific legal workflows and drive deep integration across the firm.

A History of Technological Leadership

This initiative builds upon Torys' extensive history of technological leadership and innovation within the competitive legal sector. The firm was notably the first in Canada to utilize AI for complex due diligence matters back in 2015 and later pioneered a detailed pilot of a generative AI tool. Furthermore, Torys was the first Canadian firm invited to join the prestigious Responsible AI in Legal Services (RAIL) organization.

The firm's consistent commitment to innovation has been widely recognized with numerous distinguished industry accolades for its effective use of technology. Since 2022, Torys has received the Gold Award for Best Use of Technology at both the 2024 and 2025 Canadian Law Awards. It also earned the Technology Innovation Award at the 2024 IFLR Americas Awards, solidifying its reputation as a forward-thinking industry leader.

A Collaborative Vision for the Future

Winston Weinberg, CEO of Harvey, expressed his honor in partnering with a firm renowned for its expert handling of complex, high-stakes legal matters. He highlighted Torys' strong reputation for building lasting client relationships and its clear commitment to a comprehensive AI transformation journey. The collaboration is strategically designed to deliver meaningful and measurable impact through a comprehensive, firm-wide adoption of the advanced AI platform.

The strategic partnership between Torys and Harvey marks a pivotal moment for the thoughtful integration of artificial intelligence within the Canadian legal landscape. By combining a powerful AI platform with a unique, hands-on onsite support model, Torys is effectively setting a new standard for technology adoption in the sector. This forward-looking move not only enhances its own service capabilities but also signals a broader industry shift towards leveraging AI for greater efficiency and client value.
